Confirm your nexus has actually ended — no inventory, staff, or office in California, and sales below $500,000 in sales.

Then clear California's trailing-nexus window. A remote seller must remain registered and continue collecting use tax through the entire calendar year in which it exceeds the $500,000 threshold AND through the entire following calendar year. Deregistration is permitted effective January 1 of the second year after the threshold was last exceeded, provided the seller had no physical nexus and its prior-year sales (aggregated with related persons) did not exceed $500,000.
